A blend can bring together different provenances and leaf positions in filler, binder and wrapper. Information on each component makes it possible to study the blender’s work more precisely.

The blend, or ligada, is the combination of tobaccos a manufacturer uses for a cigar. It comprises the interior and the leaves that wrap it. The description is more complete when it identifies each component.

Cigar Aficionado explains that a blend can bring together leaves from several countries, from different regions within the same country and from different positions on the plant. The selection allows the manufacturer to work with materials of diverse characteristics.

Two sheets can share the provenance of the wrapper and differ in filler and binder. That comparison is a reminder that a blend is read as a whole. When the proportions remain undisclosed, the published components still offer a useful basis for studying what the manufacturer has kept and what has changed between its descriptions.
